Servette fait douter le leader mais s’incline à Mâcon
Place au premier gros défi pour le Servette, opposé ce week-end au leader de la poule, l’AS Mâcon. Une rencontre délicate, d’autant plus que plusieurs joueurs manquaient à l’appel, retenus avec l’équipe suisse engagée face à la Géorgie. L’effectif a donc été remanié pour tenter de rivaliser avec le premier de la poule.
Malgré ce contexte compliqué, le Servette réalise une entame idéale. Dès la 2e minute de jeu, M. Laforgue inscrit un essai et lance parfaitement son équipe. Bien en place, les Genevois font preuve de réalisme et de discipline. T. Bouyxou ajoute deux pénalités (29e, 37e), permettant au Servette de rester devant au score.
Mâcon réagit et reste au contact grâce à une pénalité de F. Lavaux à la 20e minute, avant de reprendre l’avantage juste avant la pause avec un essai d’E. Canivet, transformé par Lavaux (40e). Malgré cette fin de première période à l’avantage des locaux, le Servette vire en tête à la mi-temps (11–10), récompensé pour sa solidarité et son engagement.
En seconde période, le rythme reste élevé et les deux équipes procèdent à de nombreux changements. Le Servette s’accroche et défend avec acharnement, mais subit peu à peu la pression du leader. Un carton jaune à l’heure de jeu complique la tâche des visiteurs.
Mâcon profite de ce temps fort pour reprendre l’avantage grâce à une nouvelle pénalité de Lavaux (64e), avant qu’E. Canivet ne s’offre un doublé avec un essai à la 73e minute. Malgré une résistance courageuse jusqu’au bout, le Servette ne parvient pas à inverser la tendance.
Score final : Mâcon 18 – Servette 11.
Une défaite frustrante mais encourageante pour le Servette, qui aura longtemps fait douter le leader malgré un effectif diminué. La combativité et la ténacité affichées dans cette rencontre laissent entrevoir de belles perspectives pour la suite de la saison. 🏉💪

Servette Push the League Leaders but Fall Short in Mâcon
Servette faced their first major challenge of the season this weekend with a trip to league leaders AS Mâcon. The task was made even harder by several absences, as a number of players were unavailable due to international duty with the Swiss national team against Georgia. As a result, the Servette coaching staff had to reshuffle the squad to take on the top team in the pool.
Despite these difficulties, Servette made a perfect start to the match. As early as the 2nd minute, M. Laforgue crossed the line for the opening try, setting the tone and showing that Servette had come to compete. Well organised and disciplined, the visitors remained efficient in front of goal, with T. Bouyxou adding two penalties in the 29th and 37th minutes.
Mâcon responded and stayed within reach thanks to a penalty from F. Lavaux in the 20th minute, before briefly taking the lead just before half-time when E. Canivet scored a try, converted by Lavaux (40’). However, Servette’s strong first-half performance saw them go into the break **leading 11–10**.
The second half remained intense, with numerous substitutions on both sides. Servette showed great resilience and defended bravely, but gradually came under increasing pressure from the league leaders. A yellow card around the hour mark made the task even more difficult for the visitors.
Mâcon took advantage of this momentum, regaining the lead through another Lavaux penalty in the 64th minute, before E. Canivet completed his brace with a try in the 73rd minute. Despite a courageous effort until the final whistle, Servette were unable to turn the tide.
Final score: Mâcon 18 – Servette 11.
Although defeated, Servette can take plenty of positives from this performance. Against a full-strength league leader and with a reshaped squad, they showed character, determination, and the fighting spirit that has become their trademark. 💪🏉
